Forward Darci Johal tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season in Syracuse's 2-1 loss at Mercyhurst on Friday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie., Pa. Orange goaltender Allie Kelley recorded 44 saves and Syracuse (4-16-2 overall, 1-7-1 College Hockey America) blocked 23 shots, including three by defensemen Kambel Beacom and Jocelyn Fiala. "The team battled hard tonight. AK (Allie Kelley) had a monstrous third and gave us a chance to tie things up. We had our chances late in the game and (Mercyhurst goalie Ena) Nystrøm was able to shut the door," said head coach Britni Smith. "We made some big strides tonight and will look to do so again tomorrow."
Â
The Lakers (10-12-1, 6-3-0) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Sarah Boucher 3:36 into the game and added a second tally midway through the second period. Johal cut the lead to one with 22 seconds remaining in the second frame. The graduate student has 12 points this season.

The 44 saves by Kelley marks the 14th game this season that she has had at least 30 saves, and the fourth with more than 40 stops. Kelley increased her season save total to 684 and climbed into the sixth spot on Syracuse's single-season saves record list. The five goalies ahead of her all played in at least 27 games.
Â
Orange forward Tatum White won a game-high 16 faceoffs, marking the third consecutive game she won the most battles in the circle. She has 225 faceoff wins this season, which ranks third in the CHA and her 696 career faceoff wins, which ranks sixth in Syracuse history.
