2024 Men's Rowing Schedule Announced
1/19/2024 6:18:00 PM | Men's Rowing
For the first time since 2019, the Syracuse men's rowing team will host a home race on the banks of Onondaga Lake. The Orange schedule, which was announced Friday, features a trip to the west coast to start the season for the third-straight year, the first home race in five years and all the historic cup races Orange fans look forward to each spring.
Syracuse begins its spring campaign in Redwood Shores, Calif., at the Pac-12 Invite for the third-straight year. This season, the field features 2023 IRA Champion California, Stanford and Wisconsin. The four-team round robin invite will take place April 6-7.
The Orange host Cornell and Navy for the Goes Trophy on April 20 at the James A. Ten Eyck Memorial Boathouse. Syracuse currently holds the Goes Trophy, and the Stagg Trophy (team points), and has won the Goes Trophy in back-to-back years for the first time since winning three-straight from 2006-08. The back-to-back sweep of both trophies in 2022 & 2023 is the first since the three teams began racing for two cups in 1967. The Goes Trophy was first contested in 1955 and the Stagg Trophy was introduced in 1967.
A week after the home race, SU hits the road for the Lake Morey Invite in Vermont, April 27-28. Syracuse and Dartmouth will race head-to-head for the Packard Cup, which SU won in 2023 for the first time since storming back in the final 500 meters in the 2019 rendition on Onondaga Lake in front of the Orange faithful. 'Cuse and Boston University will also race head-to-head for the Conlan Cup, which SU has won in back-to-back seasons for the first time since winning five-straight from 2006-10. Georgetown will also line up with SU on Lake Morey for the second time in as many years.
Syracuse then turns its focus to the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass., on May 19. Last season, SU's varsity eight (V8+) earned its first medal in over 40 years when the Orange placed third behind Princeton and Yale.
The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta is set for May 31-June 2 at Mercer Lake in New Jersey. Syracuse's varsity eight placed fifth at the 2023 IRA Championship and the Orange saw all three eights finish in the top-10 and the varsity four placed 14th.
