
Orange Lose A Heartbreaker in OT

TROY, N.Y. -- Syracuse University women's ice hockey lost to RPI, 2-1, in overtime Saturday night on the road in Troy, New York.
Syracuse (2-3-0) scored first when Peyton Armstrong tallied her first collegiate goal, on an assist from Jackson Kinsler. Allie Kelley made 29 saves, including nine in the first period, 11 in the second period, eight in the third period, and one in overtime.
RPI (4-2-0) got its first goal from Andrea Trnkova assisted by Nyah Philip and Natalie Tulchinsky. Sophie Helgeson scored the game winning goal for RPI with an assist from Sabrina Beaudoin. Maelee Ambrass stopped 22 Syracuse attempts in 65 minutes of play.

How it Happened
- RPI's Trnkova tallied the first goal of the contest at the 7:15 mark in the third period.
- Syracuse's Armstrong netted her first career goal at the 18:43 mark in the third to tie the game, 1-1. Kinsler assisted on the goal that forced the overtime.
- Opening up the extra period, RPI's Natalie Tulchinsky reeled off a shot but was blocked by the Orange's Jessica Cheung, Shortly after Kelley made another save.
- RPI's Helgeson scored the game-winner 1:47 into the extra frame.
- It was a better 60 minutes for us tonight. After a slow start, we were able to find our game and put together pretty solid second and third periods.
- We made some adjustments coming into today's game that the team did well with. We saw more success on our exits and generated a lot more offense.
- It was nice to see them tuck one in on the 6-on-5. There is no doubt we have a resilient group with a no-quit mentality. After hitting some posts and missing some chances, they stuck with it and found a way to force an overtime period.
- Syracuse and RPI were tied for shots (50) and blocks (13).
- The Orange controlled the circles, winning 29 of the 49 faceoffs, paced by a 13-win night from Nea Tervonen.
- Armstrong led the Orange with a total of 9 shots.
- The Orange head to Hamden, Conn., for the series at #10 Quinnipiac series on October 18-19.
- Puck drop is set for 6pm at M&T Bank Arena.
