150th Year of Men's Rowing Begins at Head of the Charles Sunday
10/19/2024 9:22:00 AM | Men's Rowing
Syracuse Men's Rowing will kick off the start of its historic 150th year this Sunday in Cambridge, Mass., at the 59th running of the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Orange will field two eights this year, replacing their coxed four entry for a second boat in the Men's Championship Eights event. The Men's Championship Eights are scheduled for 1:50pm EST.
The Varsity 8 (Bow #14) will race once again in the College Championship, looking to improve on their 10th-place finish in the category from a season ago. The entry includes returners Declan Fry, Lachlan Doust, Isaac Evans, and Mack Carr, as well as coxswain Joseph Biondolillo and Benjamin Campbell-Reide who raced in the Championship Fours entry last year. Sophomore Beck Honebein and freshmen Nick Bryan and Niki Strauss round out the lineup with their Charles debutes in orange. The Orange are one of 17 entries in the College Championship which includes crews from the United States, Canada, and England.
The Second Varsity 8 (Bow #29) will race in the Junior Varsity designation against six other familiar Eastern Sprints competitors. The lineup features almost entirely fresh faces for the Orange aside from stroke seat Anders Erlandsen and five seat Jack Gorman who represented the Orange last year. Seniors Stevie Chuck and Scott Zimmerman, juniors Ethan Graham, Philip Umeadi, Sam Fernandez, and Cole Nordby, as well as freshman Aidan Montanaro will don the Orange jersey for the first time at this event this weekend.
Alumni of the Syracuse Men's Rowing program will also race in the Men's Alumni Eights as bow #13, scheduled for a 10:51am EST start time on Saturday. The alumni boat will feature coxswain Bricen Nygaard, stroke seat Ryan Elsinga, Connor Toomey, Ken Hubbard, Reilly Eagan, Andrew Cummings, Alex Ormsby, Murphy Waters and Finn Conlon.
