The Syracuse University women's basketball team begins its 2024-25 campaign with an exhibition game against Daemen University on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Admission is FREE but fans must claim a ticket to the event.Â
The Orange are coming off a 24-8 season in which Syracuse finished 13-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. 'Cuse returns two starters from last year's NCAA Tournament squad, Georgia Woolley and Kyra Wood, who are back to lead the Orange for their senior campaign. Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack welcomed five newcomers to the Orange squad this year, including transfers Angelica Velez (LSU) and Journey Thompson (Arizona State). Freshmen Olivia Schmitt, Keira Scott and Shy Hawkins look to make an immediate impact while SU also returns key role players from last season Sophie Burrows, Saniaa Wilson and Izabel Varejao. After missing the 2023-24 season due to a knee injury, graduate student Dominique Camp is set to make her official Orange debut this season after suffering her season-ending injury in last year's exhibition game.Â
Daemen will play its second exhibition game of the season, having lost 82-38 at Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats, a NCAA Division II member in the East Coast Conference (ECC) were picked to finish second in the ECC preseason poll behind Mercy. Daemen went 23-8 overall last year and reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight where they lost to Texas Women's in the national quarterfinal, 76-44. Daemen has won the past three ECC Tournaments and are the five-time defending ECC regular season champions. Eight players return from last year's squad including All-ECC Third Team selection Claire Pikett and Daemen's top rebounded Cecilia Lapertosa.Â
Fans unable to make it to Tuesday's exhibition game at the JMA Wireless Dome can stream the game live on ACC Network Extra online or through the ESPN app. Live stats will be available on cuse.com.Â
