
Orange Top Daemen in Exhibition Play

Kyra Wood, Keira Scott, and Shy Hawkins all scored 16 points to help lead the Syracuse University women's basketball team over Daemen, 90-50, in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Nine of 10 players who touched the floor for the Orange added points in the win. SU shot 50 percent from the floor (36-of-72), and grabbed 63 rebounds, 42 on the defensive end and 21 on offense. Â
How it happened:
Syracuse opens its 2024-2025 season against Niagara on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the JMA Wireless Done. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be live on ACC Network Extra.

How it happened:
- Olivia Schmitt put Syracuse on the board first with a three-pointer just four seconds into the contest. The Wildcats kept things close early, facing a three-point deficit at the quarter's 6:11 mark. but the Orange closed the period with an 18-3 run, sparked by seven-straight points from Kyra Wood, to bring their lead to 28-10 after 10 minutes of play.
- Syracuse continued to pour on the offense in the second quarter, outscoring Daemen, 24-10, to take a 52-20 lead into the half. The Orange's second period effort was highlighted by a 10-0 run midway through the quarter. Wood recorded a first half double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes.
- SU edged Daemen, 20-17, in the third quarter to hold a 72-27 advantage heading into the final frame. Six different players scored for the Orange in the frame, including Wood, who added five points to her strong outing.
- The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run, but three-combined points from Scott and Hawkins ended the stretch. The Orange closed the game with a 9-0 run en route to their 90-50 triumph over Daemen.
- Wood recorded a first-half double-double, netting 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The senior finished the night with a tie for the team-best in points with 16 and added a team-high 14 rebounds.
- Scott and Hawkins were the other two players in double-figures for SU, also adding 16 points apiece.
- Angelica Velez led the way in assists with six. Olivia Schmitt was one behind with five.
- Nine of the ten players who saw the floor for SU scored in the win, all in the first half.
- Syracuse outrebounded Daemen, 63-30. The Orange grabbed 21 boards on the offensive side of the ball, leading to 31 second-chance points.
- 'Cuse was dominant inside, scoring 58 of its 90 points in the paint.
