Syracuse Falls to #12 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey was edged 5-2 against No.12 Penn State on Friday afternoon at Pegula Arena in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) action.
Syracuse (2-9-0, 0-2-0 AHA) found the net when Charli Kettyle delivered a power play goal from Bryn Saarela and Celia Wiegand. Mik Todd scored the second Orange goal with an assist from Heidi Knoll. Allie Kelley made 32 saves for the night.
No. 12 Penn State (9-3-0, 2-0-0) got on the board first when Maddy Christian corralled assists from Lyndie Lobdell and Leah Stecker. The Nittany Lions scored four goals in the third with contributions from Abby Stonehouse, Stecker, Stella Retrum, and Christian in that order. Goalkeeper Lauren Barbro finished the game with 16 saves.

- The Nittany Lions struck first at 13:44 in the first period with a power play goal by Christian assisted by Lobdell and Stecker.
- For the next four minutes, the Nittany Lions fired six rapid shots, but the Syracuse defense held firm, blocking and saving each attempt.
- Twenty-two seconds into the second period, Kettyle potted a goal to tie things up. After that, it became a defensive showdown marked by key saves.
- Entering the third period, Stonehouse launched the puck into the net with a pass from Katelyn Roberts for a 2-1 lead.
- Stecker scored for Penn State with assists from Brianna Brooks and Christian, at the 11:36 mark in the third period.
- Thirty-six seconds later, the Nittany Lions followed with a score by Retrum with the feed from Grace Outwater and Lobdell.
- Todd answered with a goal from Knoll to cut Penn State's lead to two.
- The final goal of the game was netted by Christian, getting assists from Brooks and Lobdell to lock in the 5-2 win.
