Orange Complete Comeback to Down RIT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team came back and scored four-unanswered goals to defeat RIT, 4-2, Friday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion in the highest-attended contest of the season.

Syracuse (3-9-0) got on the board after falling down 2-0 when Charli Kettyle scored on an assist from Jackson Kinsler and Sami Gendron. Bryn Saarela followed up with back-to-back scores for the Orange, the equalizer and the go-ahead goal. The graduate student's first tally was unassisted, and the second score came in a short-handed situation when she net a pass from Tatum White midway through the third period. Rylee McLeod scored the final goal for Syracuse with a feed from Sami Gendron and Celia Wiegand.

The 'Cuse defense was backed by Allie Kelley, who finished the night with 40 saves, including 18 in the third period to shut down the Tiger's comeback efforts.

How it Happened
- RIT struck first midway through the first period when Aquaro found the back of the net off a pass from Bear.
- For the remainder of the first frame, the Tigers tallied 16 shots, but the 'Cuse defense held strong, keeping its deficit at one goal after 10 minutes of play.
- RIT scored its second goal of the contest just over six minutes into the second period with a Favro unassisted tally.
- Kettyle took advantage of a power-play situation and put Syracuse on the board 12 minutes into the second period, with assists from Kinsler and Gendron.
- The Orange offense tallied 12 additional shots throughout the remainder of the second period, but could not find the equalizer, heading into the final period down 2-1.
- It did not take long for 'Cuse to level the game, as Saarela found the back of the net just 43 seconds into the third period.
- Saarela kept the momentum in the Orange's favor, putting her team ahead in a short-handed situation 10 minutes after her first score. White provided an assist on the go-ahead goal.
- Just over two minutes later 'Cuse added an insurance goal when Gendron and Wiegand combined to provide an assist to McLeod for Syracuse's fourth-consecutive goal.
- The Tigers recorded 18 of the final 19 shots of the game in an attempt to find a comeback of their own, but Syracuse did not let up in the defensive zone. The Orange went on to earn a 4-2 win.
- Saarela recorded her second and third goals of the second in her first multi-score performance in a Syracuse uniform.
- Kettyle and McLeod net their fourth and third goals of the season, respectively.
- The Syracuse offense recorded its first short-handed score of the season.
