Syracuse Bounces Back, Defeats FDU 77-58

Syracuse women's basketball (2-2) defeated FDU (4-1), 77-58, Sunday afternoon inside the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange snap a two-game losing streak thanks to three Orange scorers recording double figures.Â

'Cuse was led in scoring by Kyra Wood (12 points) for the second time this season. Sophie Burrows (11 points) and Izabel Varejao (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers. Wood and Varejao shared the team-lead in rebounds with seven apiece, while Dominique Camp dished a team-best eight assists.

FDU was led by Ava Renninger with 18 points.

SMALL MINUTES, BIG IMPACTS
Three Orange players made huge impacts with minimal playing time today, as freshmen Keira Scott and Madeline Potts along with transfer student Angelica Velez scored 18 combined points with 11 minutes or less of playing time each. All three contributed to 30 total points from the bench for 'Cuse.

Syracuse had single digit turnovers for the first time this season, giving the ball away only five times while forcing 17 turnovers from FDU. SU capitalized with 16 points off turnovers, thanks large in part to nine steals from the squad. Sophie Burrows led the Orange with three steals in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orange opened the game with a fury, going on a 10-0 run to start the game, kickstarted for the third time this season by a layup from Izabel Varejao. SU led all the way to the end, as a pair of 7-0 runs in the third quarter and baskets from 11 of the 13 players to touch the floor propelled the Orange to a 19-point win and .500 on the season.
