5 Things to Know: Syracuse vs. UConn
11/20/2024 5:42:00 PM | Football
The Syracuse football team hosts UConn on Saturday, in a battle of two teams with 7-3 records on the season. Here's five things to know before you head to the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday:
1. Senior Day
While it won't be the final home game for the Orange seniors, that will come next week against Miami, Saturday's game will serve as Senior Day in the Dome.
Twenty five players, managers and student assistants will be honored in a pregame ceremony 25 minutes prior to kickoff (11:38 a.m.). Fans are encouraged to arrive to the Dome early to celebrate a group that includes Orange stars such as Marlowe Wax, Oronde Gadsden, Kyle McCord, Justin Barron and more.
The Orange football program moved the date to the second-to-last home game of the season this year in order to allow families of the senior players an easier travel opportunity than Thanksgiving weekend.
2. Non-Con Finale
Syracuse concludes non-conference play on Saturday. A win would secure the second-straight season the Orange were perfect in non-conference play and bring their regular-season non-conference winning streak to eight games. Prior to 2023, Syracuse had not won all-four non-conference games in any season since the program first joined a conference in 1991.
3. Coach Mac Honored at Halftime
Legendary head coach Dick MacPherson will be the latest member of the Syracuse Ring of Honor. Established in 2020, the Ring of Honor is bestowed upon individuals named as one of Syracuse University's most outstanding student-athletes or coaches to compete and/or coach their associated collegiate sport. This honor enshrines an honoree within the Syracuse University Stadium by permanently displaying an honoree's name on the inner most façade of the JMA Wireless Dome.
Coach Mac will join Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little, Ben Schwartzwalder, Jim Boeheim, Dave Bing and Roy Simmons Jr. in the exclusive club.
His ceremony will take place at halftime. Additionally, Syracuse University will hold a private naming ceremony earlier in the day for the Coach Mac Food Pantry and Hendricks Chapel. For more information on Coach Mac, the Ring of Honor and Food Pantry, click here: Coach Mac
4. Seeking Win 8
A win on Saturday would give Syracuse eight regular season wins for just the second time since 2001 (2018 being the other). The Orange enter the contest at 7-3 under head coach Fran Brown – the second-best 10-game record for a first-year head coach at Syracuse since WWII. Paul Pasqualoni was 8-2 at the 10-game mark of his tenure in 1991.
5. Miron Victory Court Open
Fans are encouraged to check out the new Miron Victory Court in the upper concourse of the East endzone on Saturday, as it'll be open for the first time on a game day.
Miron Victory Court is a brand new enclosed pedestrian concourse that expands and redefines the JMA Wireless Dome footprint. The 27,000 square foot enclosed space features beverage and cocktail stands, a 9-foot by 32-foot video board and 18 televisions for fans to enjoy. The space connects to the upper concourse of the East end-zone. Once in the building, fans can freely enter and exit Miron Victory Court throughout the game by utilizing the interior entry points in the end zone concourse.
