
Syracuse Drops Road Decision at No. 5 Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey fell 7-1 on the road at No. 5 Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.
Syracuse (5-12-0) got on the board in the second period when graduate student Bryn Saarela scored a goal. Stella Costabile provided the assist. Goaltender Allie Kelley recorded a total of 41 saves on the night.
No. 5 Colgate (16-4-0) opened scoring in the first 56 seconds of the game with a goal by Kristýna Kaltounkova, assisted by Elyssa Biederman and Emma Pais. Kaltounkova scored another goal in the first period and one more in the third period to complete the hat trick. Four other Raiders found the net including, Sara Stewart, Neena Brick, Pais, and Kaia Malachino. Goalkeeper Farah Walker tallied 22 saves.

Kelley was solid between the pipes in the first period making 13 saves.

Kaltounkova put Colgate on the board 56 seconds into the first period with an even-strength goal assisted by Biederman and Pais.

At the 13:57 mark, Stewart put the puck into the net to increase the lead 2-0, with help from Madeline Palumbo and Casey Borgiel.

Two minutes later, Kaltounkova struck again, with Malachino on the assist putting the Raiders up 3-0.

Closing out the first period, Brick added to the tally at the 17:16 mark, netting an even-strength goal assisted by Alexia Aubin and Borgiel.

Syracuse responded at the 8:24 mark of the second period when Saarela scored an even-strength goal off a setup by Costabile, narrowing the gap to 4-1 and giving the Orange a spark.

Colgate regained control at the 16:07 mark in the second period, capitalizing on a power play when Pais found the back of the net with assists from Biederman and Kaltounkova.

In the third period at 15:28, Malachino added an even-strength goal, assisted by Palumbo and Stewart.

Kaltounkova completed the hat trick at the 17:16 mark, notching her third goal of the night with an assist from Ella Belfry to cap off a 7-1 victory for the Raiders.
