Syracuse Bests Yale Inside the Dome, 78-50

Syracuse women's basketball (4-4) beat Yale (1-7), 78-50, Sunday afternoon inside the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange get a win in their first game back inside the Loud House since they placed second in the Beach Bracket of the Emerald Coast Classic this past week in Destin, Fla. Izabel Varejao recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-best and team-leading 11 rebounds, four of which were offensive. Georgia Woolley led the way in scoring for Syracuse for the fifth time this season, recording 16 points while grabbing three rebounds and two assists. Shy Hawkins also scored in double figures for the Orange with 11 points, while Dominique Camp led the team in assists with five.
Yale's leading scorer was Mackenzie Egger with 14 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After their slowest start of the season, the Orange outscored the Bulldogs 24-10 in the second frame to take a 13-point lead into the halftime break. SU never led by less than double figures for the rest of the contest, as consecutive 9-0 and 12-0 runs between the second and third quarters secured Syracuse's third victory in the Dome this year.
WOOLLEY'S WAY
Georgia Woolley continues to take over games for 'Cuse, leading the team in points for the fifth time this campaign. The senior guard has scored in double figures in 15 of her last 17 games and has recorded at least one assist and one rebound in each game this season. Woolley ended the contest with three boards and two assists.
IZA IS SEEING DOUBLE
Izabel Varejao recorded her first career double-double in the win, setting a career-high in rebounds with 11 boards (four offensive) and 12 points (3-of-5 FG). She eclipsed the double-digit rebound mark for the first time in her career, as her previous best was seven in a game. She also made and attempted career-highs in free throws, shooting eight and making six from the charity stripe.
