Syracuse women's basketball (4-5, 0-0 ACC) will retire Syracuse legend Kayla Alexander's jersey this Sunday, Dec. 8, when the Orange take on No. 10 Notre Dame (6-2, 0-0 ACC) inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Tip-off is slated for noon on ACC Network with Pam Ward and Helen Williams on the call. Alexander's jersey will be raised into the rafters during a halftime ceremony, and the first 1,000 fans inside the Loud House will receive a Kayla Alexander jersey retirement replica rally towel.
The Orange start their conference play at home against a ranked Notre Dame team for the second straight season. In 2023, SU beat the Fighting Irish 86-81in a thriller on New Year's Eve and completed the first season sweep of the Irish in late January beating Notre Dame at Purcell Pavilion for the first time in school history. Keira Scott tallied a team-high 14 points in the contest, while Kyra Wood recorded her second double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
No. 10 Notre Dame travels to the JMA Dome after an overtime victory against No. 4 Texas Thursday night in their SEC/ACC Challenge. The Irish beat their second-consecutive top-five opponent they've faced, thanks to a 30-point performance from Hannah Hidalgo.
Syracuse and Notre Dame will face head-to-head for the 46th time in program history this Sunday, last meeting in Jan. 2024. The Irish lead the all-time series 39-6. Syracuse was victorious in both contests last season, defeating a ranked Irish team both home and away.
Two-time Olympian, WNBA eighth overall pick in 2013, and Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention in 2013, Kayla Alexander was one of the most influential players in program history. During her career from 2009-13, She guided Syracuse to four-straight postseason appearances including an NCAA Tournament berth in 2013 as a senior.
