Syracuse Loses to No.10 Notre Dame

Syracuse women's basketball (4-6, 0-1 ACC) lost its first ACC contest of the season to No. 10 Notre Dame (6-2, 1-0 ACC) on Sunday inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse honored Kayla Alexander '13 during the game, raising her No. 40 into the rafters during a halftime ceremony.
Keira Scott led the Orange with a career-high 16 points (6-of-15 FG, 4-of-5 FT), while Sophie Burrows (13 points) and Georgia Woolley (10 points) also scored in double figures. Izabel Varejao led the team in boards with 10 and shared the lead in steals with Woolley with three.

Notre Dame was led by Sonia Citron with 25 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orange and Irish started the game swinging, trading scoring blows back and forth throughout the first quarter. ND entered the second frame with a one-point advantage, 21-20. The second quarter saw an 8-0 run by Notre Dame midway through the quarter to help them outscore SU 15-9 in the period, entering halftime with a 36-29 lead. The third quarter was marked by back-to-back 9-0 runs for the Irish to give them a 23-point lead headed into the final frame of the game. An 8-0 run in the fourth sealed the game for the Irish for their first win over Syracuse since the 2022-23 season.

KEIRA HAS THE KEYS
Freshman Keira Scott earned her career-high today with 16 points on 6-of-15Â attempts from the field. Scott has now led the Orange in scoring (11 vs. Creighton, 14 vs. Texas A&M) and scored in double figures in three of the last four contests. She earned her third-straight start this game and played 34 minutes.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Forever Orange and forever immortalized, Syracuse legend Kayla Alexander '13 had her No. 40 lifted into the rafters of the JMA Wireless Dome during halftime Sunday. Always humble, Alexander said when speaking to media, "Seeing that number go up there, it's amazing and I know it says Alexander but there is a village of people that helped me accomplish what I have today." Alexander is the second women's basketball player in program history to have their number retired, joining current head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.

Syracuse returns to play on Dec. 18, traveling south to face the Binghamton Bearcats. Tip-off from Vestal, NY, is slated for 7:30 p.m. SU will return home on Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. to face Dartmouth for their final non-conference game of the regular season.
