Duke's Defense Stifles #17 Syracuse

No. 17 Syracuse (22-5, 12-4 ACC) fell to Duke (17-9, 9-6 ACC), 58-45, Thursday night inside the JMA Wireless Dome. The loss ends a five-game win streak for the Orange, dating back to Feb. 4 against Boston College. SU scored their lowest total in a game all season, their previous lowest being 51 against North Carolina on Jan. 4.

SU scored just 17 points in the first half, the first time they've scored less than 20 points since Feb. 2, 2020, when the Orange had 19 against Virginia. 'Cuse was led in scoring by Dyaisha Fair, who had 22 points and now sits just four points away from tying Brittney Griner (Baylor, 2009-13) on the NCAA Division I Career Scoring List for fifth place and five points away from standing alone in the top-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SU and Duke traded blows in the first quarter, with Duke holding the narrow lead, 14-11, at the end of the quarter. In the second, Duke held the Orange to just six points while scoring 21 of their own to take a 35-17 margin into halftime. Syracuse chipped away at the start of the second half, using a 9-0 run early in the third to cut the lead to 11, before Duke once again extended its lead. The Blue Devils would reach a 20-point margin twice more in the fourth, before leading by 13 at the final buzzer.
