No. 17 Syracuse (22-5, 12-4 ACC) takes on Pittsburgh (8-20, 2-13 ACC) Sunday afternoon for the final home game of the regular season. At the conclusion of the game, fans are encouraged to stick around while five seniors, Dyaisha Fair, Alaina Rice, Dominique Camp, Cheyenne McEvans and Izabel Varejão will be honored. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. inside the JMA Wireless Dome, with live coverage on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).
Both Rice and Fair were honored in last year's Senior Day festivities and elected to return for one more year in an Orange uniform. Rice, a graduate student from Rockledge, Fla., started her college basketball career at Florida A&M and Auburn, before playing for Syracuse for the past three seasons. She has appeared in every game of her Orange career and recently scored her 1,000th career point against Miami on Feb. 15. Fair, a Rochester, N.Y., native, played under Legette-Jack at Buffalo before following her to Syracuse last year. Fair needs just four points to move into fifth all-time on the NCAA Division I women's basketball scoring list. Earlier this season she scored her 3,000th career point and is the fastest player in program history to score 1,000 points in a SU uniform.
McEvans, a true senior from Detroit, Mich., played two seasons at Buffalo before transferring to Syracuse for her junior season, appearing in 17 games for the Orange. McEvans intends to redshirt this season while she recovers from a knee injury then ended her junior year early. Varejão, a graduate student from Vitoria, Brazil, came to Syracuse after playing her undergraduate years at Michigan. She set her career-high in points for the Orange, scoring 13 points against Coppin St. and matching it against Georgia Tech which was her first game back after being sidelined for two months with an injury. Camp is a graduate student from Dayton, Ohio, and played for Felisha Legette-Jack as a senior at Buffalo. She earned her bachelor's degree at Akron and reunited with her former head coach this offseason when she joined the Orange. college career at four different schools before landing at Syracuse. Camp has been sidelined all season with a knee injury sustained in the team's preseason exhibition game.
Syracuse enters Sunday's game following a 13-point loss to Duke on Thursday night. The Blue Devils' disruptive style of play held the Orange to just 17 points in the first half of the 58-45 loss inside the Dome. Fair led the Orange with 22 points in the contest.
Pitt travels to the Loud House after a loss at home to Wake Forest Thursday night, 65-50. Liatu King led the Panthers in scoring with 19 points, the 19th time this season she had done so. Pitt has lost seven of their last eight matchups dating back to Jan. 28, and is yet to defeat a ranked opponent this season.
Syracuse and Pitt last met on Jan. 21, where the Orange took a 72-59 road win inside the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Three Orange players scored in double digits in that game, led by Fair with 22 points. Georgia Woolley had 20 in the contest, accompanied by Rice with 13 points and four steals. SU has won the past 25 matchups against the Panthers and leads the all-time series 52-19.
