SOUTH BEND, indiana. --Â No. 7 Syracuse heads to South Bend for another top-five matchup against No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 24. The battle opens ACC play for both teams. The Orange enter with a 1-2 record, while the Fighting Irish are 4-0. Opening draw is set for noon.

ORANGE IN CONFERENCE OPENERS
The Orange have won the last four conference openers and won eight of the last 10, dating back to 2014 when Syracuse joined the ACC. Last season's conference opener saw the Orange take down Pittsburgh with a 16-4 road win. Syracuse is 48-22 (.686) in regular-season conference play since joining the ACC. The Orange earned a share of the ACC regular-season title last season with an 8-1 league mark.

Syracuse is coming off a 9-8 loss in OT against then No. 9 Maryland last Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome. Senior Natalie Smith and junior Olivia Adamson led the Orange with two goals apiece, maintaining their shared team lead with nine this season. Graduate student Emma Tyrrell also notched two goals, while senior Emma Ward finished with two assists on the day. On the defensive end, graduate student goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer made 10 saves.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame has jumped out to a 4-0 start in 2024 and moved up to No. 2 in this week's rankings after defeating previously unbeaten and top-ranked Northwestern. The Fighting Irish are tied for first in the nation with a scoring margin of 15.00 and lead the ACC in goals, assists, points and shots per game.

Notre Dame has seven players with double digit points on the season and two with 10+ goals. Lilly Callahan leads the ACC with a 5.38 goals-against average..

Saturday's game will be the 31st all-time meeting between Syracuse and Notre Dame, with the Orange leading the series 22-8.

The Fighting Irish battled back with four consecutive goals in the third quarter to bring the deficit to four. The Orange responded with a 4-0 run of their own to finish off the game and posted a 15-7 victory.Â

It was a memorable performance for then-junior, Emma Ward, who recorded eight points and tallied a career high seven assists. Emma Tyrrell found the back of the net three times in the contest, while Delaney Sweitzer made eight saves, caused three turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
