#19 Syracuse Loses to #12 NC State in Overtime

No. 19 Syracuse (23-6, 13-5 ACC) lost to No. 12 NC State (24-5, 12-5 ACC), 75-71, in overtime to close out the regular season on the road Thursday night. The first overtime game of the season for SU saw three players scoring in double digits. The Orange ends their regular season with 23 wins, tying a program record for most regular season wins, and 13 conference wins, which also ties a program record. The last 13-win ACC season for Syracuse was 2015-16.

Dyaisha Fair led the Orange with a game-high 26 points. Izabel Varejão and Georgia Woolley both scored 14 points, with Kyra Wood, Sophie Burrows, and Alyssa Latham also racking up points for SU. Izabel Varejão's 14 points is a career-high for the graduate student. Latham led the team with 10 rebounds before fouling out of the contest.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
'Cuse and NC State went back and forth from the start, as State took an early lead in the first quarter before SU walked it back to lead by four going into the second. A 13-2 run in the middle of the second quarter would give the Wolfpack a three-point lead at the halftime break. The third was a quarter of runs, with the Orange lighting it up with a 10-0 run, before NC State would close the quarter with a 10-2 run to take a two point lead into the final 10 minutes of regulation. Syracuse regained the lead with 6:19 to go, but NC State took it back with 24 seconds left. Alyssa Latham grabbed an offensive rebound with 0.1 seconds left and was fouled. Latham sunk both free throws, sending the game to overtime.

Overtime saw NC State open scoring with two made free throws, before a Sophie Burrows three gave SU the lead with two minutes to go. The Wolfpack would answer with a 5-0 run to take the lead with 17 seconds to go and would hold the lead until the end despite two made free throws from Dyaisha Fair.
