Orange Lose to Florida State in ACC Quarterfinal

No. 3 seed Syracuse (23-7, 13-5 ACC) lost to No. 6 seed Florida State (23-9, 12-6 ACC), 78-65, Friday night in the 2024 Ally ACC Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals in Greensboro, N.C.

The Seminoles held the Orange to just 27 first-half points, including nine in the second quarter, creating an 12-point halftime lead. That advantage grew to over 20 points heading into the final frame. Syracuse found its rhythm in the fourth quarter, outscoring Florida State 20-11 in the frame, but the 'Noles lead proved too big to overcome
'Cuse was led by fifth-year guard Dyaisha Fair, who had 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Fair also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds in the loss.

Florida State who led wire-to-wire, was paced O'Mariah Gordon and Ta'Niya Latson. The duo scored 24 and 25 points, respectively, combining for 19 of the team's 29 field goal makes. Makayla Timpson grabbed 18 rebounds in the game, part of a 50 to 34 advantage on the glass.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Florida State jumped out to an early 14-4 lead less than five minutes into the game and later used a 16-9 run over the entire second quarter to hold a 39-27 advantage at the break.

The Seminoles expanded their lead in the third quarter, using a 10-point scoring margin in the 10 minutes of action to put themselves ahead, 67-45.

Syracuse went on an 11-0 run over the final 4:43 minutes of action, but the comeback effort was not enough as Florida State went on to win the game.
