THE GAME
- Game three of a seven day stretch is on tap for Friday afternoon as the No. 9/No. 9 Orange take on Manhattan for the first meeting between programs. It's the second of five games this season against in-state rivals for Syracuse, fresh off an 18-10 win over No. 20 Colgate Monday night.
- Joe Pucio and Adam Gotkin will have the call Friday afternoon for ACC Network Extra. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome. Tim Leonard (pxp) and Kyle Fetterly (analyst) have the radio call on TK99/105, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as will WAER.
- Friday will be the third game in a three-game week for the Orange, who also play their first seven games of the 2024 season at home.Â
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE DOME
- As the saying goes, there's no place like home - doubly true when it's the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Syracuse opens the 2024 season with seven-straight games at home - the most consecutive home games to open a season since the Orange moved into the Dome in 1981.
- The previous highwater mark for consecutive games at the Dome to open a season was six to lead off the 2019 season. The Orange went 4-2 in that span, picking off No. 14 UAlbany, No. 15 Army West Point, No. 17 Johns Hopkins, and No. 16 Rutgers along the way.Â
- Syracuse is 29-3 in season openers at home since the Dome opened.
- 'Cuse is 264-52 all-time in the JMA Dome since the 1981 season after Monday's win over Colgate. The Orange are 2-0 on the seven-game homestand to kick off the fresh season.
THE MANHATTAN SERIES
- Despite both teams playing in the great state of New York, Friday's tilt will be the first-ever meeting between Syracuse and Manhattan College on the lacrosse field.
- Despite that, there are some familiar ties between the programs, chiefly, current Syracuse assistant coach John Odierna. The Gettysburg College product was on staff at Manhattan for eight years, including the 2023 campaign as the bench boss and three years as an associate head coach.
- Despite never meeting on the field, four current Orange players have logged time against the Jaspers: Sam English and Jake Stevens while playing for Princeton, Johnny Richiusa while playing at Canisius and Steven Schmitt while playing for Mount St. Mary's.
RE-MARK-ABLE
- Will Mark is back for a fifth season of college lacrosse.
- #88 returns for his second season between the pipes for the Orange, backstopping Syracuse to an 8-7 record a year ago.
- In his first season with 'Cuse, Mark made 207 saves at a 54.2 percent clip, averaging 13.8 saves per game.
- Mark ranked eighth nationally in saves per game last season and led the ACC.
- In his career, with the first three seasons at LIU, Mark has made 728 saves in his career and is the current active leader among NCAA Division I netminders. Well over 100 clear of the next-closest active goalie - Chayse Ierlan of Johns Hopkins. The two NCAA active leaders square off in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 9 at the Crown Lacrosse Classic.
- With a solid season near or above his average of 176 saves per year, Mark could move inside the NCAA Division I top 10 for career saves. Only three players have ever made more than 1,000 saves and none this century.
