THE GAME
- Syracuse, ranked sixth in the major polls this week, takes on No. 20 Delaware Saturday afternoon in Northern Virginia as the Orange and Blue Hens square off at Paul VI Catholic High School.
- The event, hosted by Corrigan Sports Enterprises, is set for a 2 p.m. start on FloSports, following a pair of scholastic games. Booker Corrigan and GT Corrigan will have the call for FloSports, while Tim Leonard and Kyle Fetterly take to the airwaves of TK99/105 back in Syracuse.
- Saturday's showdown at Luke McGuire Stadium in Chantilly, Virginia, is the first between Syracuse and Delaware on the men's lacrosse field in nearly 40 years. It is the second-straight neutral site game for the Orange, which most recently knocked off No. 4/2 Johns Hopkins on Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- The Orange are the only Division I team that has yet to play a true road game this season.
- Saturday marks the first time Syracuse and Delaware clash since the 1986 campaign, a 14-8 win on March 26 in the Dome for the Orange.
- Syracuse holds a 3-0 all-time record against the Fightin' Blue Hens, including a 12-6 win and a 14-4 win, both in Newark, Delaware, during the 1985 and 1972 campaigns, respectively.Â
- This weekend's tilt will be the first neutral-site meeting between the colorful opponents. Saturday marks the third time during the 2023-24 academic year a Syracuse team will face a foe from the First State. Volleyball played against Delaware State in Michigan while women's soccer traveled to Newark to begin the year.
- The Orange picked up a host of weekly honors, including national recognition.
- Jake Stevens was selected as the ACC Offensive Player of the week after a three-goal outing against No. 4/2 Johns Hopkins, striking three times in the second half. He scored what stood as the game-winning goal with less than three minutes to play.
- Saam Olexo was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after a do-it-all effort against the Blue Jays. Shutting down one of Hopkins' top offensive threats and limiting him to just one total shot, Olexo also grabbed a pair of ground balls and was crucial in the Orange riding game, holding the Jays to a 64.7 clearing effort.
- Mason Kohn was a unanimous selection to the USILA Team of the Week on Tuesday. Kohn grabbed 11 ground balls, while nine of his faceoff wins led directly to Syracuse goals. He also won the final draw of the game to seal the Orange victory.
