CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following an impressive singles performance this past weekend, Syracuse women's tennis junior Miyuka Kimoto was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 19.
Â
Kimoto, who improved to No. 48 in the ITA singles rankings this week, earns her first ACC Player of the Week nod of her collegiate career after a 2-0 weekend in the singles event against top-ranked conference opponents. She took down NC State's then-No. 3 Amelia Rajecki followed by a win against Wake Forest's then-No. 28 Casie Wooten.
Â
On Friday, Kimoto squared off against her highest ranked opponent this season in NC State's No. 3 Amelia Rajecki. The Oita, Japan native bested Rajecki in a two-set effort. Both sets were a battle as each was taken to a tiebreaker, where Kimoto won both, 7-4, 7-4.
Â
Sunday saw Kimoto face off against another high-ranked conference opponent in Wake Forest's No. 28 Casie Wooten. The Orange junior had a convincing two-set victory as she defeated Wooten, 6-2, 6-3.
Â
Kimoto owns an 8-4 singles record in the 2024 spring season. She is 15-6 in singles contests and 30-9 in both singles and doubles competitions from this spring season and the 2023 fall season. This past fall, Kimoto advanced to the semifinals of the singles event at the ITA Super Regionals. Over her career at Syracuse, she holds an 88-60 record in all matches.
Â
The Orange are set for their next outing at No. 5 Virginia on Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. before facing Virginia Tech on Sunday, March 24 at 11:30 a.m.
