THE GAME
- One final nonconference game of the regular season awaits the Orange on Tuesday night as No. ##/4 Syracuse makes the quick trip to gorges Ithaca to renew a long-standing series with Cornell.
- Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field with ESPN+ carrying the contest. Tom LaFalce and Christian De Guzman will have the call for ESPN+ as the Orange look to get back on track after a setback in South Bend last week.
- Tim Leonard (play-by-play) and Kyle Fetterly (analyst) take to the airwaves on ESPN Syracuse 97.7, Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and TuneIn App, as well as Syracuse University student-radio station WAER. Andrew Selover and Tyler Aitken have the call for WAER.
THE CORNELL SERIES
- Tuesday night reignites a series that took a one-year hiatus for 2023, with all-time meetings stretching back over a century.
- Syracuse and Cornell first met on May 21, 1920 as the Orange won a slugfest in overtime by a 5-3 count.
- Since then, Syracuse has gone 66-39-1 all-time against the Big Red. The teams have split the last 10 meetings evenly at 5-5. Cornell won the last clash 16-15 in overtime at the JMA Wireless Dome back on April 11, 2022.
- The Orange are seeking their first win high above Cayuga's waters since taking down the Big Red 14-9 on April 8, 2014.Â
- While only a handful of current players have pulled on a Syracuse jersey against the Cornell, three transfers - Jake Stevens, Sam English, and Christian Mulé - have combined for nine goals, two assists, and 11 points against Cornell while at their previous institutions.
RE-MARK-ABLE
- Will Mark is back for a fifth season of college lacrosse.
- #88 returns for his second season between the pipes for the Orange, backstopping Syracuse to an 8-7 record a year ago, Mark and the Orange have already hit that win total this season in just 10 games.
- In his first season with 'Cuse, Mark made 207 saves at a 54.2 percent clip, averaging 13.8 saves per game.
- Mark ranked eighth nationally in saves per game last season and led the ACC.
- In his career, with the first three seasons at LIU, Mark has made 848 saves in his career and is the current active leader among NCAA Division I netminders, roughly 140 career saves clear of the next-closest active goalie - Chayse Ierlan of Johns Hopkins.Â
- March 9 saw the two NCAA Division I active career saves leaders duel at the Crown Lacrosse Classic.
- Will Mark moved tinto 10th all-time in NCAA Division I history with a 15-save outing at No. 1 Notre Dame on March 30, surpassing Duke's Joe Kimset's mark of 847.
- Mark is currently 10th in NCAA Division I history with his career saves total - Blaze Riordan is currently eighth with 849 career saves for UAlbany. Mark has a solid chance on Tuesday to move into eighth all-time as Siena's Bob Hutchinson's 852 saves is just four away from Mark's current total.
- Jonathan Marcus made 877 career saves for Johns Hopkins from 1993-96 and is currently ranked seventh in Division I history.
- Only 15 Division I goalies have made more than 800 career saves, Will Mark included.
ORANGE IN BOUNCE-BACK GAMES
- Â After dropping an overtime heartbreaker against No. 5 Army West Point, Syracuse picked off High Point 19-13, improving the Orange to 74-35 in games following a loss during a season (this record does not include the season opener following season-ending losses) in their last 107 tries.
- Since the team won its first NCAA Championship in 1983, 'Cuse has only had 17 "losing streaks" (two or more consecutive losses) in 40 seasons.
