Orange Wrap up Lake Morey Invite with Sweep of Georgetown

The Syracuse men's rowing team wrapped up the Lake Morey Invite with a trio of wins against Georgetown on Sunday morning in Fairlee, Vermont. The No. 7 Orange varsity eight beat the Hoyas by a 15.3 second margin to start the morning races.

In the 2V8 race, the Orange cruised to another win finishing in 5:56.6 to beat Georgetown by 14 seconds (6:10.6).

In the final race of the weekend for Syracuse, the 3V8+ and 4V8+ lined up with Georgetown's 3V8+ boat. The Orange 3V won, crossing in 6:05.8 while SU's 4V8+ was done in 6:17.9. Georgetown was the last to cross the 2,000-meter finish in 6:28.6 (+22.8).

Conditions worsened on Lake Morey as the morning races went off and the skies opened up for a downpour during the final 250 meters of the 3V8+/4V8+ race.

The Varsity 8 went 3-0 over the course of the weekend and completed the second undefeated cup race season in a row for the Orange.

'Cuse claimed the Tip Goes Trophy and Stagg Trophy (team points) vs. Cornell and Navy last weekend and beat Dartmouth for the Packard Cup and Boston University for the Conlan Cup on Saturday at the Lake Morey Invite.

Next up for the Orange is the EARC Eastern Sprints on May 19 in Worcester, Mass.
