All Five Orange Boats Advance to ACC Grand Finals

Syracuse will have all five boats in the Atlantic Coast Conference Grand Finals on Saturday at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C. The Orange varsity eight, second varsity eight and second varsity four each won their preliminary heats, while the varsity four and third varsity eight took second place in their prelims.

"Good first step for us," said head coach Luke McGee. "The first day is really taking care of business and getting to the grand final; you can't perform in the A final until you get in the A final. The focus today was to see if we could execute some different parts of the race and get ready for tomorrow. Everybody is doing a really nice job. They did what we asked them to do this morning, so confidence is pretty high, and we are going to be challenged tomorrow by a few teams out there. We are looking forward to the challenge and everyone seems to be excited."

ACC Championship races begin at 8:15 on Saturday with the third varsity eight. Syracuse is one of four schools that will race in every grand final. Virginia, Duke and Notre Dame are the other three.

The third varsity eight started the Orange off with a second place finish it its preliminary race, covering the course in 6:57.717, coming in second behind Virginia (6:51.225) and ahead of Miami (7:19.175) and Boston College (7:27.561).

The Orange varsity eight won its prelim in a time of 6:35.199, beating Notre Dame (6:42.203), Miami (6:45.897), North Carolina (6:50.285) and Boston College (6:54.729). In the next race, the Syracuse second varsity eight crossed the finish line first in 6:45.564, ahead of Miami (6:50.604), Notre Dame (6:53.662), North Carolina (6:58.098) and Boston College (7:13.462).

In the fours racing, Syracuse finished second in the varsity four prelim in a time of 7:42.876, behind Virginia (7:30.442) and ahead of North Carolina (7:47.270) and Miami (7:47.834). The Orange second varsity four won its prelim in 7;42.230, beating Duke (7:49.818), Clemson (8:00.434) and Miami (8:07.972.

In the exhibition pair race featuring eight boats of alternate rowers from ACC teams, Syracuse's Haley Minnick and Olivia Olsen placed fourth.

Syracuse entered the league championship as the highest ranked team in the conference at #10 in this week's Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. Duke is ranked 15th, while Virginia is 16th. Miami and Notre Dame are receiving votes in the poll.

Syracuse has placed second in four of the last six conference championship regattas, including 2022 and 2023. . The 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023 Orange all took second, while the Orange have finished third five times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021). The event was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19.

In 2023, Orange student-athletes Annika Maxson and Kamile Kralikaite earned ACC First Team honors while coxswain Hanna Murphy was named to the ACC Second Team. Kralikaite and teammate Aphrodite Gioulekas earned All ACC First Team honors and Murphy was second team in 2022.
The ACC Championship will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
