Syracuse University had a nation's best five Empacher-IRCA All-Americans, announced Thursday by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
Senior Joe Willis, an All-America Honorable Mention a season ago, was named First Team All-America to conclude a phenomenal Syracuse career that ended with three-straight IRA Grand Final appearances in the varsity eight. The 2023 U23 gold medalist with Great Britain's men's eight, Willis sat six seat in the Orange Varsity Eight that placed sixth at the 2024 IRA Championship Regatta earlier this month.
Junior Isaac Evans, two seat of the Varsity Eight, also collected First Team All-America honors. Evans has helped guide the Orange to three-straight IRA Grand Finals in the Varsity Eight. A staple in the Orange bow pair, Evans was just one of three returners from last year's Varsity Eight. He helped Syracuse go undefeated in its cup races for the second-straight season.
Lachlan Doust, a junior captain and member of Australia's U23 men's eight in 2023, was named Second Team All-America. Despite missing some early season races, Doust worked his way back into the Varsity Eight lineup for the postseason where the Orange were sixth at both the EARC Eastern Sprints and the IRA Regatta. Doust sat seven seat for the Orange that reached the IRA Grand Final and finished sixth in the country.
Sophomore Mack Carr also earned a spot on the All-America Second Team. Carr sat five seats in the Orange Varsity Eight that went undefeated in its cup races and earned a sixth-place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta earlier this month. Carr, one of two sophomores in the middle four of Syracuse's top crew, had tremendous growth in his second year with the Orange.
Benjamin Campbell-Reide, the second of two sophomores in Syracuse's Varsity Eight, was an IRCA All-America honorable mention. Four seat of the top boat, he helped Syracuse to a spot in the IRA Grand Final and a sixth-place finish in both the Eastern Sprints and the National Championship.
