6/27/2024 9:12:00 PM | Track and Field
Two down, one to go, in Syracuse alum Freddie Crittenden III's quest to make the U.S. Track and Field roster at the Paris Olympics.
Crittenden won his heat in a season-best time of 13.05 seconds – the second fastest overall time in the semifinals – to advance to Friday's final in the 110-meter hurdles. Crittenden advancing sets up back-to-back nights of Syracuse alums in the finals of their respective events at the U.S. Olympic Trials, as Amanda Vestri will race in the women's 10,000-meter run on Saturday night.
Crittenden will next take to the track at 10:50 p.m. eastern on Friday, in a race that will be televised on NBC. Vestri will race at 9:09 p.m. eastern on Saturday, also on NBC.
A former U.S. Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Crittenden was a five-time All-American and six-time All-ACC honoree in his time at Syracuse. He was a runner-up in back-to-back seasons at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in his collegiate career at Syracuse, where he graduated in 2017. He has since had a successful international career and also competed regularly in the Diamond League and American Track League.
Vestri was a four-time All-American in her collegiate career, including a pair of First Team finishes in the 2023 track campaign. She also was the NCAA Northeast Regional Champion in cross country in 2021 and was an ACC Champion in the 5k on the track in her Orange tenure. She was a 15-time All-Conference performer in cross country, indoor and outdoor track, including her time in the Big XII while at Iowa State, before transferring to Syracuse.
In addition to the duo in the finals over the next two nights, Aidan Tooker and Madison Neuner also represented the Orange in the 3,000-meter steeplechase earlier at the trials. 'Cuse will also have Jaheem Hayles in the Jamaican Olympic Trials, Shaleah Colaire in Canada's trials and Benne Anderson racing at Germany's trials this weekend.
