LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Syracuse men's soccer (3-2-2, 0-1-1 ACC) heads down to Louisville (4-2-0, 0-2-0 ACC) to face the Cardinals on Friday, Sept. 20, at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. First touch is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be live on ACC Network Extra.
Â
The Orange are seeking their first ACC victory of the season on Friday.
Â
'Cuse Update
The Orange took down the Golden Griffins in a dominating 5-1 win on Tuesday night (Sept. 17). The five goals from the Orange are the most they have scored in a match since their ACC win over NC State Nov. 11, 2023.
Â
Gabe Threadgold recorded the first goal of the night just two and a half minutes into the game, sending a ball from Giona Leibold into the back of the net. Following the graduate student's goal, Andre Cutler-DeJesus, Daniel Burko, Nathan Scott, and Michal Gradus all tacked on their first scores as members of the Orange en route to 'Cuse's 5-1 victory.
Â
Threadgold, who recorded three points in the win over the Golden Griffins, leads SU with his six points on the year.
In the win against Canisius, graduate student Sam Layton went the distance for his seventh-straight game, making him the only player to have not been subbed off the pitch this campaign. Freshman Kristjan Fortier earned a sport in the starting 11, making it his first collegiate start. Senior goalkeeper Jason Smith also earned his first minutes on the pitch this campaign, recording two saves.
The Orange offense has put together as many chances as anyone in the ACC, taking 141 shots in seven games (20.14 per game), the second most in the league.
Â
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville is 4-2-0 through its first six contests of the slate, playing to a perfect 4-0 in nonconference play, but dropping its two ACC games.
Â
The Cardinals are coming off a 3-2 loss to No. 7 Pitt on Friday, Sept. 13, dropping their second-straight ACC contest.
Â
Senior center back Josh Jones has played an important part for the Louisville backline throughout his four-year career, playing a part in 18 clean sheets during that time. This fall however, Jones has expanded his arsenal to include joining the attack in the run of play. The senior scored Louisville's first goal against Jacksonville and at Pitt, both during the run of play. Jones is one of four Cardinals tied for the team lead with two goals.
Â
Series History
Louisville holds the edge in the series between the two teams, 11-3-6. 'Cuse and Louisville last matched up a season ago, playing to a 2-2 draw at SU Soccer Stadium.
Â
The last time Syracuse took a trip down to Louisville was during the 2022 season, returning home with a 2-1 win.
Â
Friday's match will be the 21st all-time matchup between team, as the Orange and Cardinals have faced off at least once in each season since 2005 except for the 2013 slate.
