LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Syracuse men's soccer team (3-2-3, 0-1-2 ACC) played to a 1-1 draw with the Louisville Cardinals (4-2-1, 0-2-1 ACC) on Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Daniel Burko recorded a 73rd-minute score to give the Orange an edge in the second half, but Louisville earned a share of the points with 45 seconds remaining in the game, netting a direct free kick.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Scoring chances were hard to come by in the first 45 minutes of the contest, as the Cardinals and the Orange recorded three and two shots, respectively. 'Cuse owned the lone shot on goal in the first half, with Ernest Bawa sending a ball at Louisville's keeper in the 41st minute.
Â
'Cuse continued to look for chances on offense at the start of the second half, as Nicholas Kaloukian and Burko put together back-to-back shots at the beginning of the frame, but both opportunities were denied by the Cardinals goalie.
Â
The two teams continued to trade chances throughout the half, but it was Burko who broke through first for the Orange, netting a 73rd-minute goal and putting Syracuse ahead, 1-0.
Â
With just under 14 minutes remaining in the contest, Louisville put together a scoring opportunity, but Tomas Hut provided yet another big stop in goal for the Orange to keep his squad in front. However, the Cardinals earned a chance to split the points in the game's 89th minute on a set-piece opportunity, and they did just that, netting a direct free kick with 45 seconds on the clock.
Â
Syracuse and Louisville went on to tie, 1-1, and both earn an ACC point.
