CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No. 20 Syracuse men's soccer opens ACC play against Boston College on Friday, Sept. 6, at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field. First touch is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be live on ACC Network Extra.

'Cuse is 4-5-5 in conference openers under head coach Ian McIntyre since he took the reins of the program ahead of the 2010 season. Since joining the ACC in 2023, the Orange are 3-4-4 in conference openers.

'Cuse Update
The Orange are coming off an 0-1-1 week that started with a 2-2 draw with Charlotte on Thursday, Aug. 29. After facing a one-goal deficit at halftime, freshman Kristjan Fortier sent a strike from outside the box to the back of the net to help his team earn a point at home.

Syracuse then fell to Le Moyne, 1-0, on Monday, Sept. 2, at SU Soccer Stadium. The Dolphins converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute of the contest to earn the first victory between the two Salt City programs.

Orange in the Polls
Syracuse was ranked No. 20 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll, released on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Syracuse was one of seven ACC teams included in the week-two rankings. The other six schools included reigning National Champion, Clemson (No. 2), Stanford (No. 5), Pittsburgh (No. 8), North Carolina (No. 12), Louisville (No. 15), and SMU (No. 22). Virginia Tech (19) also received votes towards the poll.

Syracuse was also included in the latest TopDrawerSoccer poll at No. 21.

Scouting the Eagles
Boston College is unbeaten in 2024, playing to a 2-0-2 record through four matches. The Eagles opened their campaign with three-consecutive home contests, drawing Iona (Aug. 22), 2-2, and Providence (Aug. 26), 1-1, before defeating Dartmouth (Aug. 30), 2-1. BC then hit the road for the first time this season, topping Merrimack (Sept. 1), 1-0.

BC sophomore, Moritz Gundelach, was named the second ACC Defensive Player of the Week of the season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Sept. 3. In a 2-0-1 week for the Eagles, the defender played all 90 minutes at center back in each of the three contests. He also tallied his first collegiate goal against Dartmouth.

The Eagles hold the edge in the lifetime series between the two programs, 19-12. 'Cuse and BC have also played to four draws, with two of those results coming in the previous two contests between teams. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the Orange and the Eagles played to 1-1 ties.

The last time Syracuse took down Boston College was during the 2016 campaign, when the Orange earned a 2-0 victory at home.

The Orange have a week off before returning home to SU Soccer Stadium to host Virginia Tech for the program's Alumni and Family Night on Friday, Sept. 13. The contest, which is set for 7:30 p.m., will be Syracuse's first nationally-televised match of the season on ACC Network.
