
Syracuse Drops Close Contest to Mercyhurst, 2-1

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey fell in a tight AHA matchup, 2-1 against Mercyhurst on Friday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Syracuse (7-15-0, 5-4-0, AHA) got on the board in the final period when sophomore forward Nea Tervonen found the net. Celia Wiegand provided the assist on the breakaway. Goaltender Allie Kelley recorded a total of 25 saves on the night.
Mercyhurst (10-11-0, 5-4-0 AHA) opened the scoring with a goal by Chantal Ste-Croix, assisted by Sydney Pedersen and Vanessa Upson. Sofia Nuutinen launched the puck into the net in the second period, increasing the Lakers 2-0 lead. Goalkeeper Jorden Mattison tallied 22 saves.

- Syracuse fought hard and unleashed a barrage of shots during the final 12 minutes of the third period, but the Lakers' steadfast defense held, securing a 2-1 victory.
