
Syracuse Secures 3-2 Victory Over RIT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey defeated RIT 3-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play on Saturday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion, celebrating Emmy's Day in partnership with Team IMPACT.
Syracuse (8-20-0, 6-8-0 AHA) took control early, as Heidi Knoll netted the opening goal with assists from Charli Kettyle and Rylee McLeod. Sami Gendron extended the lead to 2-0 in the first period, capitalizing on a pass off the glass from Bryn Saarela. Kettyle later added the Orange's final goal, assisted by Saarela and Tatum White. Goaltender Allie Kelley kept Syracuse finished with a 32-save performance.
RIT (13-12-3, 6-7-1 AHA) mounted a late comeback with two third-period goals. Emma Pickering capitalized on a power play with an assist from Addie Alvarez, followed by a goal from Kyla Bear. RIT goalie Sarah Coe recorded 26 saves on the night.
How it Happened

The Orange set the tone early, dominating the first period as Knoll opened the scoring at 7:54, assisted by Kettyle and Rylee McLeod, cleaning up on a loose puck in front.

Gendron extended the lead to 2-0 before the second intermission, finishing a setup from Saarela, who banked a pass off the glass to get Gendron on a breakaway.

The second period was a defensive showdown, but Kettyle broke the deadlock, stuffing the puck home in front at 15:22, putting the Orange up 3-0.

RIT fought back in the third, as Pickering capitalized on a power play with help from Alvarez at 5:37 in the final frame.

Near the midway point of the third period, Bear ripped in a shot with help from Bronwyn Khangsar to cut the deficit 3-2.

The Tigers pressed for the equalizer, but Allie Kelley stood firm, stopping 11 shots in the final period to secure Syracuse's 3-2 win.
Behind the Numbers

Syracuse recorded a 19-13 advantage in blocks over the Tigers across both games of the series. Jessica Cheug led the way with a career-high eight blocks on Saturday.

Knoll and Gendron netted their first goals of the season.

Kettyle's seventh goal of the season ranks her second in team scoring behind Saarela's 13.
