Hall of Fame Ceremony Honors Four Inductees at Annual Banquet
The Syracuse Association of Rowing Alumni (SARA) hosted its 13th Annual Evening at Ten Eyck on Saturday, October 4th at Drumlins Country Club, bringing together alumni, supporters, and current team members to celebrate the storied men's and women's rowing programs at Syracuse University.
The evening featured Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, program updates from both head coaches, and fundraising auctions benefiting the rowing programs. Men's Head Coach Dave Reischman and Women's Head Coach Luke McGee addressed attendees with insights into program updates and future goals for their respective teams.
This year's distinguished class of honorees included:
Tim Bristow (Class of 1985) – A decorated Syracuse rower who was a member of the 1982 IRA bronze medal crew and placed fourth at the 1983 IRA Championship in the varsity eight. Bristow served as team captain from 1984-1985 and was a National Collegiate Rowing Championship finalist in the varsity eight in 1982. He went on to become a three-time gold medalist at the Royal Canadian Henley.
1990 IRA Championships Bronze Medal Crew – The legendary crew completed an undefeated regular season before capturing the bronze medal at the 1990 Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. The boat featured future Olympians, rowing coaches, and dedicated program supporters: Coxswain John Parella, Stroke Jeff Pesot, 7-seat Allan Green, 6-seat Chris Ludden, 5-seat Don Smith, 4-seat Mike Love, 3-seat Steve Lock, 2-seat Colin Goodale, and Bow Dirk Stribrny.
Kris Sanford – The former Women's Rowing Head Coach (1996-2010) elevated Syracuse rowing to national prominence during her tenure. A three-time Big East Coach of the Year, Sanford led the Orange to five NCAA appearances, including three Big East titles. In 2001, she guided Syracuse's varsity eight to its first NCAA appearance, followed by the program's first team bid in 2002. Under her leadership, five rowers earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-American honors, including three-time honorees Jillian Kott and Anna Goodale.
Andrew Washburn (Class of 1975) – Following his rowing career at Syracuse, Washburn earned a bronze medal in the lightweight eight at the 1976 World Championships. He went on to a distinguished coaching career, serving as an assistant coach at Brown University, head coach at Pomfret School boys crew, women's masters coach at Narragansett Boat Club, and as a competitive masters rower.
The evening's live and silent auctions raised funds to support both the men's and women's rowing programs, continuing the tradition of alumni engagement and program development.
The SARA Alumni Weekend also featured a Friday night Meet & Greet at the Ten Eyck Boathouse, an alumni row on Saturday morning, which included the 1990 crew returning to Onondaga Lake where they earned a bronze medal 35 years ago, and an alumni golf outing.Â
