Book Three, Chapter One
- The final book of the story is here as the Orange earned a berth to the 2025 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship for a fifth-straight year and 19th time in program history.
- Syracuse has qualified for the postseason in each of Lynn Farquhar's first three years at the helm of the Orange as the 'Cuse looks to bounce back from a first-round exit last season.
- The Orange are one of five teams out of the ACC to reach the postseason, joined by top-seeded North Carolina, the four seed in Virginia, Duke, and Wake Forest.
- The Ivy League had the second-most qualifiers with three: this weekend's host and national three seed Princeton, second-seeded Harvard, and Yale.
- Six opponents from the 2025 regular are in the 18-team field: North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest, Princeton, and Fairfield. Additionally, UConn, which Syracuse scrimmaged in August, is in the field.
- The Orange and Liberty meet for just the third time in series history and the second time in the last three seasons. Syracuse outlasted the Flames 2-1 in overtime in the first round of the 2023 edition, Farquhar's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
- Syracuse and Liberty meet at Bedford Field Friday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. first push on Friday, with ESPN+ on hand for video coverage.
With a Win Friday Syracuse Would...
- Reach the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third time in the last four seasons, only missing in 2024.
- IMprove to 3-0 all-time against Liberty, including 2-0 in the postseason.
- Pick up its 13th win, tying for the most single-season wins in the Lynn Farquhar Era (2023-Present) after going 13-7 a year ago.
- Win a first-round game for the 14th time in program history.
- Even its record in NCAA Tournament play at Princeton to 2-2 all-time.
- Win its first NCAA Tournament game in Princeton, New Jersey since 2009.
- Improve Syracuse to 3-1 in neutral site games.
Against the Field
- Syracuse again put together one of the toughest schedules in the country and that is paying dividends for the Orange.
- Earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, Syracuse had the ninth-best RPI score in the country at 0.61171.
- Syracuse is no stranger to one-third of the NCAA Tournament field as the Orange have played six teams included in the 18-team bracket this season.
- Syracuse is 4-4 against the field entering the postseason, picking wins over Wake Forest (1-1), Fairfield (1-0) and this weekend's host, Princeton (1-0).
- Of the four losses against 2025 NCAA Tournament teams, all have been by one goal, including a shootout setback against Virginia in the ACC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday.
- In addition to the six teams Syracuse saw in the regular season, the Orange got a preseason tuneup in against UConn.Â
- The Orange played three eventual conference champions: North Carolina (ACC), Princeton (Ivy) and Fairfield (NEC), going 2-1 against those teams this season.
Sister Act
- Friday's game will feature a few sets of sisters between the Orange and Liberty.
- Syracuse's roster sports a pair of twins, Bo and Hattie Madden, while two sisters will faceoff, albeit from the sidelines of Bedford Field and not between the lines.
- The Maddens have connected on two goals this year, once against Lock Haven (Aug. 29) and again on the road at Stanford (Oct. 10). The Lock Haven game was the first time in their collegiate careers the Twins have connected for a goal.
- Syracuse director of field hockey operations, Bryn Underwood, will square off with her identical twin sister, Reagan Underwood, an assistant coach for the Flames.
- This won't be the first meeting between the Underwood sisters. They met on the field on Sept. 3, 2023 as Bryn's American Eagles fell 1-0 in a shootout decision against Reagan's Flames. Reagan took one shot against American, but it was not on goal against Bryn, who made five saves in that contest.
