Book Three, Chapter Two
- The final book of the story is here as the Orange earned a berth to the 2025 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship for a fifth-straight year and 19th time in program history.
- Syracuse has qualified for the postseason in each of Lynn Farquhar's first three years at the helm of the Orange as the 'Cuse looks to record its first semifinal win since the program's only National Championship team in 2015.
- The Orange are one of five teams out of the ACC to reach the postseason, with only three moving past the first round. Familiar foes No. 1 North Carolina and No. 8 Duke will face off at the same time that the Orange play the Princeton Tigers.Â
- The Ivy League had the second-most qualifiers with three: this weekend's host and national three-seed Princeton, second-seeded Harvard, and Yale. Both host teams, Harvard and Princeton, will advance to the quarterfinals, while Yale was eliminated by the reigning national champions, Northwestern.Â
- Three opponents from the 2025 regular season are in the Elite Eight along with the Orange: North Carolina, Duke and Princeton. Additionally, UConn, which the Orang took on in a preseason scrimmage, beat out Wake Forest to move on. Â
- The Orange and Princeton meet for the second time this season. Playing back in September, Syracuse topped the Tigers in an exhilarating overtime win. The last time the Orange took on Princeton in postseason play was in 2022, when Syracuse took down Princeton 5-2 in the first round of the tournament.Â
- Syracuse and Princeton will meet again on Princeton's home turf, Bedford Field, Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. first push on Sunday, with ESPN+ on hand for video coverage.
With a Win Sunday Syracuse Would...
- Reach the NCAA Semifinals for the fifth time in Syracuse field hockey history.
- Improve to 15-13 all-time against Princeton, making it the fifth win in a row.
- Pick up its 14th win, making it the most single-season wins in the Lynn Farquhar Era (2023-Present) after going 13-7 a year ago.
- Win an NCAA Quarterfinal game for only the fifth time in program history.
- Make its record in NCAA Tournament play at Princeton 3-2 all-time.
- Win its first NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal game in Princeton, New Jersey.
- Improve Syracuse to 6-2 in away site games.
Against the Field
- Syracuse again put together one of the toughest schedules in the country and that is paying dividends for the Orange.
- Earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, Syracuse had the ninth-best RPI score in the country at 0.61171.
- Syracuse is no stranger to one-third of the NCAA Tournament field as the Orange have played six teams included in the 18-team bracket this season and three teams in the Elite Eight.
- Of the four losses against 2025 NCAA Tournament teams, all have been by one goal, including a shootout setback against Virginia in the ACC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday.
- In addition to the six teams Syracuse saw in the regular season, the Orange got a preseason tuneup in against UConn.Â
- The Orange played three eventual conference champions: North Carolina (ACC), Princeton (Ivy) and Fairfield (NEC), going 2-1 against those teams this season.
