
Syracuse Bested by #8 SMU

The Syracuse University volleyball team (13-15, 5-13 ACC) fell to SMU (23-5, 15-3 ACC) in straight sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14, on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
Despite the loss, the Orange defense held the Mustangs to a .296 hitting percentage, SMU's lowest mark since October 31st when they swung for .233 against North Carolina. Gabby McLaughlin led Syracuse with five kills and seven digs, while Sydnie Waller added five kills and Skylar George contributed four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMU took control early in the opening set, building a 14-5 lead before cruising to a 25-15 victory. The Orange struggled offensively, hitting -.129 for the set as the Mustangs' defense limited Syracuse's attack opportunities.
The second set saw Syracuse battle back early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead behind strong serving from George. The Orange extended their advantage to 11-4 with McLaughlin recording back-to-back aces. However, SMU responded with an eight-point run to regain control and eventually pulled away for a 25-19 win.
In the third set, the Mustangs built a commanding 11-6 lead and never looked back. Despite Syracuse's defensive effort, SMU closed out the match with a 25-14 victory to complete the sweep.

UP NEXT
Syracuse will stay on the road this week as the Orange head to Clemson next. They'll meet with the Tigers on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with the match set to air on ACC Network Extra.
