Puck Drop
- Game four of a four-game home stand awaits Syracuse on Friday, with a quick turnaround and a trip to Troy on Saturday as the Orange take on RPI this weekend.
- Both games are set for 4 p.m. starts at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Friday and Houston Field House on Saturday at RPI.
- Syracuse is in the midst of a busy week, hosting Mercyhurst at home last weekend with No. 5 Cornell at Tennity Tuesday night. The Orange are 0-1-2 in this home stand with both opponents mentioned in the most recent USCHO Coaches Poll (#5 Cornell, with Mercyhurst receiving votes).
- RPI dropped its last two games, a 5-2 decision on Friday against No. 12 Colgate and a 4-1 outcome Saturday against No. 5 Cornell. Syracuse is 6-4-0 on the road this season while the Engineers are 1-7-0 on home ice.
- After being on the road for a month, Syracuse rounds out the first half of the season with six home games in seven games. The outlier is Saturday's game at Houston Field House.
Rounding out the First Half
- Just four games left in the calendar year 2025 for the Orange, first with the RPI series this weekend followed by a pair against Robert Morris at Tennity December 5-6.
- Syracuse is off to one of its better starts in the first half of a season, sitting at 6-10-2 with four games in the balance before the break.
- Under head coach Britni Smith, the best first half for Syracuse came in 2022-23 with an 8-13-1 start, while Syracuse went 7-12-0 last year before New Years Eve.Â
- By winning percentage, the .389 so far in the fall of 2025 is the best percentage in the last four seasons before the break, edging out the .386 in 2022-23.
The Cardiac 'Cuse
- The Cardiac 'Cuse was back at it Tuesday night against No. 5 Cornell, forcing overtime thanks to a Stella Costabile goal with less than five minutes to play, deadlocking the game at 2-2.
- The Orange and Big Red battled through 65 minutes, nearly even in shots in the extra period with Cornell taking five against four for Syracuse.
- Syracuse prevailed in the shootout, blanking the fifth-ranked Big Red 2-0 with shooutout goals from Heidi Knoll and Nea Tervonen. Freshman Ava Drabyk stepped up big in the cage again, keeping Cornell's two shooters off the board, her second shootout this year without allowing a puck past her.
- Knoll has scored twice in shootouts this season, getting the only tally in the 1-0 shootout win over Mercyhurst (Nov. 21)
- Syracuse is 2-0-2 in overtime and shootouts this year, getting extra time winners on the road at Delaware (2-1, Oct. 17) and at Lindenwood (2-1, Nov. 7).
- The two ties to date are the second-most in the last four seasons after three draws during the 2023-24 campaign, with two coming in league play.
- Under head coach Britni Smith, Syracuse is 4-5-7 when games reach overtime or a shootout, with the most clutch coming last season in the first round of the AHA Tournament against Robert Morris in double overtime.
