
Van Kempen, Leeggangers Earn All-America Status

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two Syracuse University field hockey standouts, Bo van Kempen and Lieke Leeggangers, earned NFHCA All-America status as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its annual All-America teams Tuesday morning.
Van Kempen earns All-America honors for a second straight year and her first as a First Team All-America selection. After earning All-Region plaudits last season, Leeggangers earns the first All-America status of her career, landing on the Second Team.
The NFHCA Mid-East Region Player of the Year and a two-time NFHCA Mideast All-Region First Team selection, van Kempen played and started in all 20 games for the Orange this season and was was one of the nation's most elite goal scorers, striking 23 times and ranking fifth in Division I with a 1.15 goals per game average. She was also tied nationally with 2.65 points per game thanks to an additional seven assists. Her 53 points were the fourth-most by any player in the country this year. Van Kempen scored four goals during the postseason, including two against No. 4 Virginia (Nov. 6) and once each against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. 14) and No. 3 Princeton (Nov. 16). The Zevenaar, Netherlands native scored five times on six penalty stroke attempts.
Leeggangers played in all 20 games, making 19 starts. She finished her senior campaign with three goals, striking against No. 2 North Carolina (Oct. 17) and on the road at Boston College (Oct. 24), while adding a goal in the second game of the year against Fairfield. Leeggangers inserted 13 corners during the season as well, with a season-high five against Colgate (Oct. 3).
