
Orange Fall to Colonials After Defensive Battle

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women's ice hockey fell late to Robert Morris 1-0 in a defensive showdown Friday evening at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Syracuse (8-11-2, 4-6-1 AHA) could not rally back after a hard-fought battle against the Colonials. 'Cuse generated significant offensive pressure throughout the game, particularly in the third period when it fired 13 shots but did not find the back of the net.
Robert Morris (8-12-1, 6-6-1 AHA) capitalized on a power-play opportunity in the third period when Thalia D'Elia scored the game-winner. Goaltender Maggie Hatch stood tall with 36 saves to earn the shutout.
How It Happened
- During the first period Syracuse outshot Robert Morris 12-5, but neither team could break through. The Orange had a power play opportunity but couldn't convert the chance into a goal.
- Syracuse continued to press in the second period, but Hatch remained sharp in the Colonial net. The Orange had another power play chance midway through the period but couldn't capitalize.
- Robert Morris struck 1 minute, 52 seconds into the third period on a power play goal from D'Elia just three seconds into the power play, assisted by Catriona Crarer directly from a faceoff win.
- Syracuse had a late opportunity when Heidi Knoll stepped up to a penalty shot with 2:34 remaining in regulation, but Hatch made the save .
Behind the Numbers
- Freshman goalkeeper Ava Drabyk made 22 saves in the loss.
- Syracuse outshot Robert Morris 36-23 throughout the game.
- Knoll paced the offense with five shots on goal, while nine others had a multi-shot game.
