Orange Travel to SMU for ACC Opener

Syracuse women's basketball (7-1) travels to Dallas to face SMU (4-5) on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET, marking the Orange's first true road game of the season as ACC play begins.
The Orange enter riding a two-game winning streak, including Tuesday's thrilling 66-60 overtime victory over Auburn in the ACC/SEC Challenge. That hard-fought win showcased Syracuse's resilience, as the team overcame a sluggish start, and going 0-for-16 from three-point range, to force overtime and eventually pull away for the six-point win.
Syracuse's offensive attack has been balanced and potent, with three players averaging double figures. Graduate guard Dominique Darius leads the way at 12.9 points per game and has been clutch in key moments, pouring in 20 points against Auburn. Freshman sensation Uche Izoje continues her impressive debut campaign, averaging 12.9 points and a team-leading 7.4 rebounds while leading the ACC and ranking ninth nationally in blocks per game (2.5). Senior Laila Phelia rounds out the scoring trio at 13.4 points per game.
The Orange have dominated on the glass, ranking ninth nationally in offensive rebounds (17.5 per game), and second in the ACC in both steals and blocks. However, three-point shooting remains a concern—Syracuse is shooting just 24.2% from beyond the arc through eight games.
SMU, in its first season under head coach Adia Barnes, has struggled to find consistency early in the campaign. The Mustangs present Syracuse with an opportunity to grab its first ACC road win and improve to 8-1 heading into a four-game homestand. The Mustangs are coming off a win over Arkansas in the ACC/SEC Challenge this past Thursday.Â
Fans can stream the game live on ACCNX through the ESPN app or on espn.com.Â
The Orange return home to the JMA Wireless Dome on Wednesday, Dec. 10 for a 7 p.m. tip-off versus Colgate. To purchase tickets, visit cuse.com/basketballtickets.Â
