Syracuse (10-20-0, 7-8-0 AHA) earned a 5-0 victory over Lindenwood on Senior Day at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Saturday afternoon to sweep the Lions (3-23-2, 2-13-1 AHA) in the final home weekend of the regular season.
Five different Orange scored in the win, including Carly Sardine who netted her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute of the second period.
Allie Kelley made 30 saves in the win to earn her third shutout of the season.
How It Happened
Stella Costabile put the Orange on the board first in the first five minutes of action when she was assisted by Jackson Kinsler and Jessica Cheung. SU took a 2-0 lead when Nea Tervonen scored at 15:33 on an assist by Jocelyn Fiala and Costabile.
Lindenwood out-shot SU 9-8 in the opening frame but Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley fanned all nine Lions shots for a clean slate.
Sardine's goal early in the second period gave SU a 3-0 lead and Kinsler made it 4-0 Syracuse on a power play less than four minutes later. Sami Gendron added an empty-netter in the third period to make it 5-0.
Head Coach Britni Smith
"We're really excited. Obviously the focus this weekend was playing hard for our seniors so to get the sweep on Senior Weekend was something that was great to see. To top it off Allie [Kelley] getting a shutout was nice to see as well. We played hard in front of her, Jess Cheung blocking a shot with six seconds left there just shows what not only Allie means to us but our seniors mean to us when we can play that hard in a 5-0 game. I'm really proud of our efforts and happy that we could come out with the series win as well."
Senior Salute
In a post-win ceremony, Syracuse celebrated its five departing student-athletes who played in their final regular season home game at Tennity. Graduate students Klára Jandušíková, Bryn Saarela, Tatum White, Charli Kettyle and Allie Kelley were all honored on the ice surrounded by their family and friends.
Behind the Numbers
The Orange head to Moon Township, Pa., for a weekend series at Robert Morris Feb. 7 and 8 before wrapping up the regular season at Mercyhurst the following weekend. Puck drop on Feb. 7 is set for 7 p.m. on FloSports.
