'Cuse Falls to No. 9 Georgia, Program-Best 11-Game Win Streak to Start 2025 Season Comes to End

ATHENS, Ga. - The Syracuse softball team (11-1) suffered its first loss of the 2025 campaign, falling 8-2 to No. 9 Georgia (12-0) on Saturday at the Georgia Classic in Athens. The Orange's season-opening unbeaten streak ended at 11 games, nearly doubling the previous best starts of 2011 and 2022. Angie Ramos drove in both of Syracuse's runs, delivering an RBI single and a run-scoring groundout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ramos put the Orange on the board first with an RBI single, scoring Jadyn Burney in the top of the first inning. Freshman Sydney Jackson took the mound for the start and kept Georgia's bats in check early, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing no hits.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third, plating four runs to take a 3-run lead.

Ramos picked up her second RBI in the top of the fifth, grounding out to shortstop to bring home Kelly Breen. However, Georgia responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single, restoring its three-run advantage.

Georgia tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, extending its lead to 8-2 and earning the win after collecting three outs in the top of the seventh.

'Cuse concludes play at the Georgia Classic on Sunday with a pair of games against App State and No. 9 Georgia. Game one against the Mountaineers is set for 10:30 a.m., with game two to follow against the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. The game against UGA will air live on SEC Network+. - Julianna Verni also come on to pitch for Syracuse, tossing three and two thirds, giving up six hits and four runs, while striking out three.
- The loss moves Syracuse to 11-1 on the season, ending the Orange's program-record unbeaten streak to open the year. Despite the setback, Syracuse's season-opening win streak remains the best in program history, marking a historic start to the season.
