PUCK DROP
-Syracuse will travel to Erie, Pennsylvania, to face Mercyhurst in the AHA semifinals on Friday, Feb. 28. Puck drop for game one is set for 3 p.m. Game two will be March 1 at 2 p.m. with a game three on Sunday, if necessary. All three games will be streamed live on FloHockey with live stats available on Hurstathletics.com.
-Syracuse enters the semifinals after a double overtime 3-2 win against Robert Morris last weekend.The Orange penalty kill shut down the Colonials on both of their power play chances and 'Cuse capitalized on 50-percent of its power play opportunities. - Syracuse recently faced Merceryhurst in the final regular-season series for both squads. They split the series with a 5-3 Mercyhurst triumph in game one before Syracuse bounced back with a 4-2 win in the second game.
-Friday's game will mark the 64th all-time meeting between the two teams.
POSTSEASON AWARDS
-Graduate students Bryn Saarela and Allie Kelley earned All-AHA Second Team honors, while freshman Jessica Cheung made the AHA All-Rookie Team.
-Saarela, ranks third in the AHA with 17 goals and 0.49 goals average per game. She is also eighth in points with 29, she has three game winning goals, and six power play goals, which ties for second-most in the AHA. She is one of three players in the entire AHA with at least five power play goals and two or more short-handed goals. Additionally, she is one of six players in the AHA with a hat trick this season.
-Kelley, the NCAA and Syracuse all-time saves leader, has a 2.62 goals against average and a .928 save percentage, the second-best among AHA goalies with at least 30 games played. She leads the league with 1,115 saves and 32.79 saves per game. -Cheung, a defenseman, has 72 blocked shots, the sixth-most in the AHA and one of just eight players with at least 70 blocked shots. She currently has 10 points, including a goal and nine assists. She has contributed in five of Syracuse's last six games, helping the team to a 5-1 record over that span.
KELLEY BREAKS ALL-TIME NCAA SAVES RECORD
- Graduate student Allie Kelley set the record for NCAA career saves on Jan. 17 against No. 9 Penn State.
- The East Berne, New York, native surpassed the previous record of 4,167 saves, set by Lovisa Selander (RPI) from 2016-2019.
- Kelley has also surpassed the men's Division I record of 4,434 saves. Her career save total now stands at 4,471, accumulated across her time at Quinnipiac, St. Anselm and Syracuse, with 2,248 of those saves coming during her tenure with the Orange.She is one of only two goalies in NCAA history to surpass the 4,000-save milestone.
- This season alone, Kelley has made 1,118 saves, reaching the 1,000- save mark for the fourth consecutive season.
