24 Year Old School Record Falls in Outdoor Opener

Iaunia Pointer broke a 24-year old school record in her Orange debut at the USF Alumni Invitational.
The 'Cuse transfer, who joined the team this semester, started the outdoor season with a time of 23.28 seconds in the 200-meter dash, finishing as the runner-up in a field of over 100 competitors. Tennessee's Cydney Wright (23.08 seconds) was the only runner faster than Pointer in the field. Her time bests Alison Culley's mark of 23.33 seconds from the 2001 campaign.
Olivia Garner also raced in the 200, finishing in 25.67 seconds. James Nmah (21.78 seconds) raced in the men's event.
Xayvion Perkins was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a personal-best time of 51.47 seconds. Madison Ceasar ran to a time of 1:03.90 in the women's race, putting her 30th overall.
Action continues on Saturday, with members of the Orange entered in the 4x100-meter relays, 100-meter dash and 110 and 100-meter hurdles.
