Win Streak Ends With Loss to No. 4 Penn State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team fell 4-1 to No. 4 Penn State Friday evening at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Syracuse (12-12-3, 8-7-2 AHA) saw its four-game win streak come to an end against the nationally-ranked Nittany Lions. The Orange struggled to generate offense against Penn State's strong defensive pressure, managing just 14 shots on goal. Ava Drabyk was in net totaling 36 saves in the loss.
Penn State (20-4-0, 14-1-0 AHA) dominated possession throughout the contest, outshooting Syracuse 40-14. Madison Campbell earned the win in net with 13 saves, while the Nittany Lions scored goals in all three periods to secure the road victory.
How it Happened
- Penn State controlled the opening period, outshooting 'Cuse 15-2. Grace Outwater broke the scoreless tie at 16:50 with an unassisted even-strength goal..
- The Nittany Lions extended their lead just 20 seconds into the second period when Mya Vaslet scored, assisted by Nicole Hall and Leah Stecker.
- Syracuse responded at the 6:30 mark when Heidi Knoll found the back of the net, assisted by Rylee McLeod and Maya D'Arcy, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
- Kendall Butze extended Penn State's lead at 8:41 of the third period with assists from Taylor Lum and Nicole Hall. Later in the period, Tessa Janecke scored a shorthanded empty-net goal at 17:00, assisted by Taya MacDonald.
