The Syracuse men's rowing team swept all four races on the Cayuga Inlet on Saturday, defeating Cornell and Navy to claim both the Goes Trophy and the Stagg Cup (team points) to cap a dominant afternoon on the water.
The Orange extended their run of success in both dual-race trophies, winning the Goes Trophy for the sixth consecutive year and the Stagg Cup for the seventh straight time, while posting their second consecutive sweep of all races on the day.
Syracuse set the tone in the varsity eight, the marquee race for the Goes Trophy, crossing the line in 5:32.5 — more than four and a half seconds ahead of host Cornell (5:37.2) and nearly 10 seconds clear of Navy (5:42.4).
The second varsity eight delivered the most commanding performance of the afternoon, with Syracuse finishing in 5:37.7 — a full 12.3 seconds ahead of Cornell (5:50.0) and 23.8 seconds clear of Navy (6:01.5).
The third varsity eight was the closest race of the day, with the Orange crossing the line first in 5:41.0, followed by Cornell at 5:44.7 and Navy at 5:51.3.
