Fourteen members of the Syracuse track and field team will continue their seasons at the NCAA First Round next week in Lexington, Kentucky.
The NCAA announced qualified athletes on Wednesday, with 10 Orange men and four women earning bids. Syracuse's runners are seeking to earn 1-of-12 spots from the East (the West region will simultaneously hold the prelim event) to reach the NCAA Championships.
ACC Champion and 110-meter hurdles school record holder Jamir Brown is the top 'Cuse qualifier with the fourth-best time in the East (13.25 seconds). Teammate Isaiah Hayes (13.79 seconds) will join him in the event.
Benne Anderson has the sixth-best time in the field in the 1,500-meter run (3:36.47). Fellow All-ACC performer Drew Zundell (3:39.98) will join him in the event.
As always, Syracuse is rolling deep in the 10k. Peter Walsdorf, Connor Ackley, Assaf Harari and Louis Small all rank inside the top-24 in the event. Walsdorf's season best mark of 28:14.58 leads the Orange and ranks seventh in the competition. The women will see Emma Eastman and Madeline Heintz race in the event. Eastman is 13th in the women's field with a season-best time of 33:05.36.
The younger Anderson, Selma, will race in the 5,000-meter run. She enters the meet with the 12th-best time in the field (15:41.68).
Elijah Mallard will race in the 400-meter hurdles. Also a school record holder in his event, Mallard's season-best time of 49.97 seconds ranks 12th in the region heading into the meet.
Fresh off her personal best time of 13.28 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles at the ACC Championships, Peyton Rollins is in the field in the same event next week.
Julian Franjieh qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He has a season-best time of 8:48.03.
The competition begins on Wednesday, May 27 and concludes Saturday, May 30. All-four days of racing will be broadcast on ESPN+.
