Kathleen Moroney is in her first year as graduate assistant with the Syracuse women’s basketball program. A 2010 graduate of Tulsa, Moroney played on the women’s basketball team for the Golden Hurricane from 2006-10.
Moroney comes to Syracuse from Frisco, Texas, where she taught English at Frisco Independent School District since 2010. While at Frisco, Moroney coached the freshmen girls basketball team from 2010-12 before becoming the associate head coach for the varsity program for the 2012-13 season.
Moroney helped lead the 2012-13 Frisco team to a 23-10 record and the program’s first-ever playoff victory as it reached the regional quarterfinals. Moroney also assisted with the track and field program at Frisco from 2011-13.
Moroney’s duties with the Orange include on-court practice responsibilities, assisting with the supervision and management of the team’s student managers, assisting with the coordination of team travel and meals, and assist with recruiting efforts.
Originally a walk-on at Tulsa under head coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson, Moroney was a Conference USA Student-Athlete Honoree and won the Tulsa School of Education Faculty Outstanding Senior in Secondary Education Award, all while being a Dean’s List honoree. She graduated in 2010 as a double major in education and English.
A native of Allen, Texas, Moroney played under head coach Amy Justice at Allen High School, where she served as team captain her senior year.
