SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Over the coming weeks, Syracuse field hockey head coach Ange Bradley is announcing the program's 2014 signing class. Be sure to check Cuse.com as the Orange unveils its incoming class one-by-one.
Â
"I am very excited to welcome the Class of 2018 to our Syracuse Field Hockey Family," Bradley said. "This class has decided to join a university which offers excellence both in the classroom and on the field. This is a powerful recruiting class that will offer speed to our line-up, skill and a high level of hockey knowledge. This class represents five states and two countries; they are diverse and ready to help us pursue an ACC and NCAA championship. I cannot wait to help them develop and leave a legacy for future Syracuse Field Hockey student-athletes. There are many firsts that this class can achieve as a unit. On behalf of the Syracuse Athletic Department and our extended community please welcome the class of 2018 to our Syracuse family."

In today's installment, Bradley announces the addition of 6-1 forward Lies Lagerweij from Delft, Netherlands.
Â
A four-year standout for her regional team in Holland, Lagerweij recorded her first goals last indoor season in the Hoofdklasse, the highest level women's league in the Netherlands.
Â
"Lies is an outstanding competitor who loves to score," Bradley said. "She possesses the technical skills, vision and awareness to win the 1v1 battle in the attacking third of the field. She will grow to become an impact player for us next fall."
Â
A talented scorer and play-maker in field play, Lagerweij also brings unique skills to the Orange's penalty corner unit.
Â
"Lies is also an attack penalty corner specialist who can strike as well as drag flick," Bradley said. "We are excited to have Lies as a member of our Orange family."
Â
Lagerweij won a gold medal in the Dutch National Indoor Championship in 2008-09. She won silver medals at the Dutch Indoors in 2011-12 and the Dutch Outdoors in 2012-13. Lagerweij also has bronze medals from the 2012-13 indoor championship and the 2009-10 field championship.
Â
"I chose Syracuse because I felt the team and the staff had a lot of love for the game and I think that is the most important thing about playing a sport," Lagerweij said. "Everyone I met was very kind and it is a great opportunity to study at a university of this caliber."
Â
Also on Lagerweij's extensive playing resume are gold medals at the 2010-11 and 2012-13 Klappertoernooi, a gold at the 2009-10 DOD and a silver at the 2008-09 ICC Tournament.
Â
Extremely active off the field, Lagerweij was an exchange student in Israel, worked in the Youth Academy, volunteering in Ecuador, and was a member of the Sports Council.
