Orangemen's Varsity Four Takes First Place At the Stonehurst Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY ? The varsity four of the Syracuse University men's crew team won the men's four heavyweight competition at the Stonehurst Invitational in Rochester, NY. Though the races were completed on Sunday, October 14, the results were made official on Monday, October 15.
The varsity four was an all senior crew coxed by Eric Miller (Syracuse, NY/ Henninger). The Sarasota cousin combination of stroke Chris Liwski (Sarasota, FL/ Riverview) and three seat Andy Berster (Sarasota, FL/ Riverview) was in the championship boat. Senior captain Matt Heumann (Burnt Hills, NY/ BHBL) was the two seat and Jason Bourcier (Greenland, NH/ Portsmouth Senior) was the bow. Using a combined time from the three-mile head race and three times the finish time of the 1,500-meter sprint, SU finished ahead of Cornell - A and Yale - A. Last season SU's varsity four placed third at the Stonehurst.
The Orangemen's varsity eight placed sixth. The boat coxed by Peter Romano (East Amherst. NY/ Canisius) finished the three-mile head race in 16:07.12 and finished the 1,500-meter sprint in 4:31.61. Harvard won the men's heavyweight eight at the Stonehurst with a championship time of 28:46.4.
The Orangemen's next race is in Boston at the world's largest regatta, the Head of the Charles. The regatta is from Saturday, October 21 - Sunday, October 22.
